What Is Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)?
Blepharoplasty, commonly known as eyelid lift surgery, is an operation to remove excess skin, fat, and tissue from baggy or puffy eyelids. As we get older, the skin around our eyes loses elasticity and can start to droop. Gravity pulls down on the eyelid tissues, causing sagging upper lids or bulging under-eye “bags”. Blepharoplasty addresses these concerns by surgically trimming away the surplus skin and fat and tightening the eyelid area for a more youthful, alert appearance.
This procedure can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, depending on your needs. It is a surgical (incisional) treatment – no lasers are involved – and can be done under local anaesthetic (with you awake) or under general anaesthetic if preferred.

The Blepharoplasty Procedure for Both Upper and Lower Eyelids
You’ll meet our consultant plastic surgeon to discuss your concerns and goals. We assess your eyelid condition, health, and suitability for upper, lower, or combined blepharoplasty.
Surgery is performed under local or general anaesthetic and takes 45 minutes to 2 hours. You’ll go home the same day with full post-op instructions.
Swelling and bruising are normal and subside in 1–2 weeks. Most patients return to normal activities in 10–14 days, with final results visible in a few months.

FAQ's
Upper surgery lifts droopy lids and may improve vision. Lower surgery removes bags and tightens under-eye skin for a youthful look. Both can be done together for balanced results.
Scars are minimal. Upper lid scars hide in the natural crease. Lower lid incisions sit just below the lashes or inside the lid. Over time, they fade and are hardly noticeable.
The procedure itself is painless with anaesthesia. Discomfort after surgery is mild and managed with pain relief. Most patients report tightness and slight swelling for a few days.
Common effects include swelling, bruising, and temporary dryness. Serious risks like infection or lid position issues are rare when performed by a qualified surgeon.
Results often last 5–10 years or longer. Your eyes will still age naturally but look younger than if you hadn’t had the surgery.
No. The goal is a natural, refreshed look. Most people won’t notice you’ve had surgery—just that you look more rested.
